I believe that the role I am taking in our state VCSSCE Consortium represents distinguished performance in Domain 4, Professional Responsibilities because it represents my professional commitment to statewide support of social studies. I just began participating in the consortium last year and this year I volunteered to serve as the treasurer of the fall conference. This involves attending statewide meetings to plan the conference and keeping track of the conference finances. This allows me to interact frequently with social studies educators across the state of Virginia. Cathy Hix
I believe that my participation in A Praxis Series Standard Setting Study represents distinguished level performance in Domain 4, Professional Responsibilities, component c, Coordinating work with other educational professionals or stakeholders within the district and beyond it shows my commitment to the development of high quality professional standards for reading specialists. I was nominated and selected to serve on this 3 day study reviewing test items and developing the scoring standards for the Reading for Virginia Educators: Reading Specialists. I had the opportunity to meet and work with other educators (reading specialists, college professors, and teachers) from around the state Gayle Kelley

I believe that writing articles for professional journals represents distinguished performance in Domain 4, Professional Responsibilities, component d: participating in a professional community, because it allows me to participate be involved in the national debate on education. By participating in the debate, I am learning about the current trends in education, review the thoughts and views of others, and to give my perspective to the debate. Peter Weilenmann

@Cathy, I believe this would be rated as distinguished because not only are you participating in the consortium, but you also volunteered to step into a leadership role. Taking this initiative clearly exceeds just fulfilling contractual duties. You are also making a substantial contribution (handling the funds) for an organization that impacts your content area at the state level. Paula Lamina

I believe that the implementation of knowledge gleaned from content courses (Instructional Approach/skill) in my professional practice represents distinguished level performance in Domain 4, Professional Responsibilities, Component 4e Growing and developing professionally because it facilitates UBD curriculum design where deep conceptual knowledge is uncovered through carefully structured learning activities. I believe that the implementation of CLASS training into my professional practice represents distinguished level performance in Domain 4, Professional Responsibilities in that the training enhanced my knowledge of effective instructional practices. CLASS training is intense, and in order to be a verified CLASS observer, one must successfully complete a series of reliability practices tests/scoring situations. As APS uses CLASS as its primary program evaluation tool, training in this area helped my practice, so that when I visit classrooms and provide feedback to teachers, I have a specific set of best practices in mind that reflect district expectations for healthy program implementation and instructional practice (this in in addition to Danielson's framework, of course). In addition, I feel volunteering to go through CLASS training and subsequently volunteering to serve as a scorer reflects service to the profession. Paula Lamina
